Perhaps the most valuable part of these five days is what stays with you when you return home: a kinder way of listening to yourself, a deeper connection with your body and emotions, and the opportunity to discover aspects of yourself you may not have noticed before.
You will take away new experiences, personal discoveries and a different way of attending to what is happening within you—with greater calm, curiosity and less judgement. You may find a way to be more present and to relate to yourself and others with understanding and kindness, a practice you can continue to nurture in everyday life.
What emerges when we slow down enough to notice what is already here? What happens when we stay in the present moment, watching and waiting for what wants to happen, rather than reaching for what we think should happen?
Developed by Ron Kurtz, Hakomi is an experiential, body-centered approach to self-discovery and healing. Grounded in modern neuroscience and inspired by many wisdom traditions, it rests on five principles: mindfulness, non-violence, organicity, unity, and the integration of body and mind. At its heart is a simple understanding: that healing is the natural state of the organic world, and that our task is to create the container and context in which it can unfold.
Over five days in Euskadi, in the green hills of Lasierra, we will gather in a small group to explore our relationship to ourselves, to one another and to the world. Through gentle experiments in mindfulness, we will turn our attention inward and notice how the body holds the beliefs and patterns that quietly shape our lives. Meeting this with curiosity rather than judgment, at our own pace, we make room for something new.
Along the way, something else begins to grow: loving presence, a warm and steady way of being with ourselves and others that emerges naturally when we feel safe and connected. More than a technique, Hakomi is a way of living, thinking and feeling. This retreat is an invitation into that spirit: to feel connected, to be met with kindness, and to know the depth of healing that becomes possible when we put our hearts in the right place.
Hakomi legacy holder and international trainer.
After training for ten years with Ron Kurtz—the founder of the Hakomi Method—and being personally named by him, shortly before his death, as one of the holders of his legacy, Georgia has dedicated herself to supporting the growth of Hakomi internationally and helping to carry that legacy forward.
Georgia Marvin is currently a trainer with the Hakomi Education Network and the lead trainer of the Vancouver team.
International Hakomi trainer, clinical psychologist and writer.
Two passions have shaped my professional journey of more than 30 years: childhood and psychotherapy (or perhaps it would be better to say self-study). After many years working from an object relations perspective (Winnicott, McDougall and others), I discovered Hakomi more than 15 years ago. I immediately knew I had come home.
Hakomi teacher, General Health Psychologist and mindfulness instructor.
My understanding of psychotherapy is deeply rooted in mindfulness, present-moment experience and the therapeutic relationship. I aim to accompany each person with respect and curiosity for what is happening within them, attending not only to what they think and feel, but also to how their experience finds expression through the body and emotions.

I have recently completed a degree in psychology, I am a teacher of the Hakomi Method, and I continue to deepen this practice as a personal journey of self-discovery.

No. You do not need any previous experience of Hakomi or mindfulness. All you need is curiosity and a willingness to listen to yourself. During the retreat, you can explore your present-moment experience at your own pace. We are not here to “get it right”, but to discover.
Georgia Marvin, a senior Hakomi trainer, shares an informal introduction to the method.
